Why start with 4×4?
A 4×4 grid uses only the numbers 1 to 4 and has four small 2×2 boxes. That is few enough to hold in mind, so a child can concentrate on the idea that each number appears once in every row, column and box.
When 4×4 puzzles feel easy, try 6×6. The boxes become 2 rows by 3 columns, and the numbers go up to 6 — a gentle step towards the standard puzzle.

Helping a child get started
Point to one empty square and ask which numbers are already used in its row. Then look at its column and its box. The number that is left is the answer. Saying it out loud turns the rule into a habit.
Pencils with erasers are useful. Wrong guesses are part of the process — checking against the solution sheet afterwards is a good moment to find where a row went astray.

There is no fixed age. Many children manage 4×4 puzzles from around age 5 or 6 with a little help. Move up when they solve them comfortably.
Yes. Every puzzle has a separate solution grid you can show on screen or print on its own page.
The printed grids use numbers, but you can agree that 1 means red, 2 means blue and so on, and colour the squares instead.
