Addition
A clear progression
Addition begins with combining groups and counting on. It moves to number bonds within 10 and 20, then adding tens and ones within 100, and finally formal column addition with larger numbers.
Missing-number questions such as 34 + ▢ = 52 appear on the harder settings from Year 2. They encourage children to see the relationship between addition and subtraction.

Tips for accurate adding
For larger numbers, set out calculations in columns on squared paper so the digits line up. Estimate first: if 348 + 227 should be roughly 550, an answer of 5,075 is clearly wrong.
