Multiplication
Once children know their times tables, they can use them to multiply larger numbers. Year 3 multiplies two-digit numbers by one-digit numbers. Year 4 uses short multiplication with three-digit numbers. Years 5 and 6 use long multiplication with two-digit multipliers.
Multiplication
Most mistakes in long multiplication come from misaligned digits or forgotten carried numbers. Squared paper — for example PaperKind's 1 cm graph paper — keeps each digit in its place.
