What Year 3 practice looks like
Year 3 introduces formal written methods. Children add and subtract numbers with up to three digits using columns, multiply a two-digit number by a one-digit number and meet tenths for the first time.
In English, handwriting becomes increasingly joined and writing is organised into paragraphs. Grammar work introduces conjunctions, prepositions and adverbs to express time and cause.
