What Year 5 practice looks like
Year 5 maths joins ideas together. Children learn that 1/4, 0.25 and 25% describe the same amount, multiply four-digit numbers by two-digit numbers and divide with short division, including remainders.
In English, sentence structure becomes more sophisticated. Children use relative clauses, modal verbs and brackets or dashes, and spelling includes trickier endings and silent letters.
