What Year 2 practice looks like
Year 2 consolidates everything from the first years of school. In maths children add and subtract two-digit numbers, meet multiplication and division through the 2, 5 and 10 times tables, and read time to five minutes.
In English, reading shifts from decoding towards understanding. Children start to explain what happens in a text and why. Writing grows longer, with past and present tense, commas in lists and apostrophes for missing letters.
