Fractions
Year 1 finds halves and quarters. Year 2 adds thirds and non-unit fractions such as 3/4. Year 3 counts in tenths and adds fractions with the same denominator. Year 4 explores equivalence and hundredths, and Years 5 and 6 compare, add and subtract fractions with different denominators.
Finding a fraction of an amount connects directly to division: to find 3/5 of 40, divide by 5 and multiply by 3.
